We'll be posting results in this thread as the evening goes on. These are early results of only a few precincts, so these numbers do not represent the final talley.

With only a small portion of results counted the night doesn't look all that bad for incumbents, despite an underlying "throw the bums out" movement out there.

Bill Heath (I) is currently leading 57% to 43% over Bridges for State Senate seat 31.

Daniel Stout (I) currently leads Steve Golden and Paulette Braddock for House District 19. Stout 38.7%, Golden 32.5, and Braddock with 28.77%.

Drew Lane (I) currently leads Dick Donovan and Chad Plumley for District Attorney. Lane 38%, Donovan with 34%, and Plumley with 28%.

Tommie Graham (I) leads Vernon Collett for Post Commission #3 by a 54% to 46% spread.

Beverly Cochran narrowly leads Todd Pownall in the race for Post Commission #2 with 45.6% of the vote to Pownall's 44.2%. Adam Gregory is currently behind the other two with about 10% of the vote.

Tony Crowe and David Barnett are the top contenders for Post Commission #4. Crowe leads with 40.5, Barnett follows with 34.5, and the two other candidates (Cosgrove and Anavitarte) split the remaining 25% of the vote.

The GOP Referendum question is 'Yes' 80% of the vote. The SPLOST renewal is currently at 56% YES.

Remember, these are early results and these numbers may not necessarily represent the final outcome of the election.

Local Races
Bill Heath (I) retains his State Senate Seat (31) defeating Pete Bridges 57% to 43%.

Daniel Stout (I) will be in a runoff with Paulette Braddock. Stout took 37.5% of the vote while Braddock made a comeback in the late boxes, getting 31.91% of the vote, Golden a close third with 30.60%.

Drew Lane (I) heads into a runoff with Dick Donovan. Lane receiving only a few more votes than Donovan, Plumley taking enough to force a runoff between the two.

Tommie Graham (I) defeated Vernon Collett for Post Commission #3 by a healthy 56% to 44% spread.

Beverly Cochran took the most votes in the race for Post Commission #2 with 45.81% of the vote to Pownall's 44.39%. Adam Gregory took about 10% of the vote, forcing a runoff between Cochran and Pownall.

Tony Crowe and David Barnett are the top contenders for Post Commission #4. Crowe took 39.96, Barnett follows with 33.39, and the two other candidates (Cosgrove and Anavitarte) split the remaining 26% of the vote. Crow and Barnett will face each other in a runoff as well.

The Paulding GOP Referendum question is 'Yes' 80.76% of the vote. The SPLOST renewal is currently at 53.55% YES.

Statewide Races
Michael Thurmond defeated Rakeim Hadley 77% to 23% for the Democrat nomination for U.S. Senate. Thurmond will face Senator Johnny Isakson in November.

The governor's race was surprising, with John Oxendine not making it to the runoff. Karen Handel and Nathan Deal will, along with many local candidates, have another three weeks of campaigning before they meet in the GOP Runoff.

Roy Barnes will face either Handel or Deal in November, having won the Democrat nomination for Governor against six other candidates.

Carol Porter will face Casey Cagle in November, having defeated Tricia McCraken with almost 70% of the vote.

Secretary of State Brian Kemp also laid waste to the anti-incumbent sentiment supposedly out there, as he defeated Doug MacGinnitie 59% to 41%.

Gail Buckner and Georganna Sinkfield will face each other in a run-off for the Democrat nomination for Secretary of State, the victor to face Brian Kemp in November.

Sam Olens and Preston Smith will face-off in the runoff three weeks from now, each seeking the GOP Attorney General nomination. The victor will face Ken Hodges, who soundly defeated his opponent, Rob Telihet.

Republican John D. Barge will face Democrat Mary Squires for School Superintendent, both having won their respective primaries by a sound margin.

In the Agriculture Commissioner's race Democrat J.B. Powell will face Republican Gary Black, who won the GOP nomination with over 70% of the vote.

Darryl Hicks (D) and Mark Butler (R), having won their primaries, will battle it out for the Labor Commissioner position.

Republicans Tim Echols and John Douglas will meet in the runoff in three weeks, the winner facing Keith Moffet (D) for Public Service Commission.

These results are unofficial and several of these races are close enough for absentees or a recount to alter the outcome..

Last look has Braddock in run off with Stout. Several precincts still seem to be out according to sources at the Courthouse and it may be awhile before final numbers are in. Austin Middle school being one of them and that should be a strong one for Cochran.

and actually Bill Heath's race was very close due to the other counties in the Senate Dist. 52% or there about for him total.
