Governor Sonny Perdue signed SB458, which imposes new seat belt laws on Georgia Truck Owners.

Georgia had exempted pickup trucks from seat belt laws to relieve farm workers from constant buckling and unbuckling of seat belts when driving from field to field. Under the new law the farm workers must buckle-in before re-entering a public road, even if for the purpose of crossing a road to a neighboring pasture.

However, "free" Federal money was lost as a result of the law.

The new law does exclude vehicles on private property from the mandate, an empty gesture since current and previous laws have never applied to vehicles used on private property.

Now signed by the governor, SB458 now puts Georgia in compliance with the Federal mandates.
